I’m trying to determine at which point our empires will recognize
that the screams of its citizens
are important.
Not even as bodies go up in flames
do the bombing, starvation, dehydration
the war crimes
stop.
Maybe those in power are so used to thinking that “no”
does not actually mean “no”
and looking for legal loopholes that they do not recognize when the people who are dying
are demanding that the suffering stop.
Maybe not even for genocide will they understand the concept of stop.
When leaders see with only blind eyes,
exist with deaf ears,
carry no humanity
concepts of injustice are meaningless.
