Accident
It was an accident
A tiny accident
The word accident
It doesn’t carry the weight of what the situation is.
I stubbed my toe,
I hit someone with the door
That’s an accident
Someone could have died…
That should carry more weight.
Vehicular manslaughter…
That’s a weighty phrase
It’s heavy,
Commanding,
A no nonsense sort of phrase.
But what’s a word for the little things
That aren’t quite death?
No one died luckily
But since it was just an accident
You were more worried about just having your permit, that you just might lose your license privileges
Not that:
You just got off a bit emotionally shaken up, that you can still enjoy your right to life.
Just an accident
You were more worried about car payments.
Damages
Not the “what if” damages of a lost life
In that moment
I don’t think it occured to any of us.
In those moments
I wonder if you know how close you came?
In this moment
I wonder how this processed in your invincible brain?
