Alone—
but not lonely,
I gaze up at
the universe.
Cosmos spread
across a
dark
sky.
Orion’s belt
stationed
across from
the moon.
Voices ricochet
off surrounding walls.
Swallowed up
by darkness.
Human noises,
a distracting din.
Communal noises,
of a temporary community.
Comfort drawn not from
the white noise,
but from the vast
dark space—
which
hangs heavy
with the weight of a thousand
stars.
